Elizabeth Arden

Elizabeth Arden was an astonishing woman. Innovative, inspired, tireless, Miss Elizabeth Arden formed part of the foundation of the modern American beauty industry a century ago. Born Florence Nightingale Graham, Miss Arden came from the backwoods of Canada to the bustling city of New York in 1910, where she opened the first Red Door beauty salon on Fifth Avenue.
She rebranded herself as Elizabeth Arden and developed a successful range of cosmetics, beauty products, a chain of beauty salons and spas, and of course, a range of popular perfumes.
Her products and salons were marketed as ladylike and acceptable in an age and era when makeup and beauty were still thought of in terms of “low women”. She took her products overseas and established her salons in Paris, across Europe, South America, and Australia. By the time of her death, there were 100 Elizabeth Arden beauty salons across the globe.
Elizabeth Arden’s Vision
Miss Arden’s driving passion was to create the latest and best products, packaging, and services for women to benefit – not hide – the woman wearing it. “To be beautiful is the birthright of every woman” is what she’s famously known for saying. That includes her range of feminine, bold, beautiful perfumes.
Whether it was her legendary Blue Grass fragrance, or her bold red lipstick in World War II, Elizabeth Arden disrupted the beauty industry and paved the way for the modern woman.
